Kullu was once known as "Kulanthpitha" ; ' The end of  the habitable world'. Beyond rose the forbidding heights of the Greater Himalayas, and by the banks of the shining river Beas, lay the fabled 'Silver Valley'. Kullu got its first motorable access only after Independence. The long centuries of seclusion has however allowed the area to retain a considerable measure of its traditional charm. Here is the core of an intricate web of numerous valleys - each of which is a visual delight and seems more beautiful than the other. The 'Silver Valley' has nature's treasures that lie carelessly scattered as flowers on the high meadows. There is pleasure in every step you take in these enchanted valleys and in every gurgle you hear in the clear mountain streams.

Air :Nearest airport is Bhunter 10 km. Kullu is connected by air bus flights from Delhi, Shimla and Chandigarh to Bhunter.
Rail:The convenient railheads are Chandigarh 320 km., Jogindernagar and Shimla 230 km. approx.
Road:Almost each and every part of the state is linked by roads. The Himachal Road Transport Corporation is running its buses covering the whole state.

It is connected by road with Delhi ( 789 km. ) and linked by National Highway via Ambala ( 606 km. ) and Chandigarh ( 556 km. ).

SHOPPING
Government owned Charitable Trust Tibetan Handicrafts, or any of the cooperatives run by local women, such as Kullu/Kashmir Shawl Emporium are authentic shopping outlets. Bhutico is good for shawls, and so is the Himachal Handicrafts on Circuit House Road.

The town of Kullu, positioned in the charming Kullu valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh and nestled amid lower Himalayas, is primarily famous for its breathtaking natural beauty, sprawling spans of lush valleys and mountains. It is also renowned for its apple orchards, temples, and the yearly Dussehra festival. All of these draw thousands of tourists from various parts of the country.

Raghunathji Temple:
The chief tourist interest of Kullu is the Raghunath Temple that worships Lord Ram, who is believed as one of the most important deities in the Hindu mythology and is the patron deity amongst the residents of Kullu valley. It was erected in the year 1660 by Raja Jagat Singh, the one-time ruler of Kullu, basically to make amends for his sins. He got an idol of Lord Ram from Ayodhya and founded it in this temple.

Camping Sight Raison:
16kms. away from Kulu, the sight is ideal for spending a quite holiday in solitary splendor and for holding youth camps. There are a large number of orchards in this part of the valley. HPTDC has log cabins for comfortable stay.

Malana:
28 km. up to Naggar by bus and then 20 km. on foot. The tiny village of Malana lies a little ahead of the 'Chanderkhani Pass' famous for the temple of 'Jamlu'. Malana village is reputed to be the oldest democracy in the world in existence where all the inhabitants of the village take part in managing its affairs. It is also famous for trekking.

Kasol:
42 km. Kasol is charmingly located in an open space which slopes down to a broad expanse of clear white sand at the edge of the river. It is situated on the bank of Parbati river in the Parbati valley.

Bijli Mahadev Temple:
The Bijli Mahadev Temple is placed on a spur at an elevation of 2460 meters. As the name suggests, the temple is frequently struck by lightning (bijli, lightning).

Bajeshwar Mahadev Temple:
This pyramidical temple belonging to the 8th century A.D. is embellished with wonderful carvings in stone and sculpture in the Shikhara style. This temple is situated about 200 metres from the village in a plain between the main road and the Beas river.

Katrain:
This place is situated on the way to Manali and has acquired prominence due to apple orchards, a fruit research station and trout hatchery. It is also famous for bee keeping and Govt. trout farm at Patilkulh. Sufficient accommodation is availablein Hotels of HPTDC.

Bajaura:
Bajaura is on the main road where Bahseshwar Mahadev temple is situated about 200 m from the village in a plain between the main road and the Beas river. It is believed to have been built in the mid 8th century.

Naggar:
Naggar was the capital of the Kullu Rajas for about 1,400 years. It is also known for its castle and the Nicholas Roerich's Museum. On the left bank of the river Beas and about three hundred metres above the river, Naggar is delightfully situated on the wooded slope and commands an extensive view, especially of the North-West of the valley. There are a large number of famous temples in and around Naggar and an excellent place for a longer stay.
